How to improve the life of stamping die?

1. Correct selection of die material

The working condition of punch is worse than that of die, and the material of punch is better than that of die. When blanking in large quantities, we should pay attention to the selection of die materials which should be of high strength, good wear resistance and good toughness.

2. Reasonable design structure of cold stamping die is the prerequisite to ensure the service life of die

The service life of cold stamping die has a great relationship with the reasonable structure design. At the beginning of design, other design requirements of cold stamping die are guaranteed. It is necessary to ensure the toughness, rigidity and strength of the die, so as to ensure that the convex, concave and other structural parts of the cold stamping die will not be deformed, damaged or increase the wear degree due to the impact of the punching force. The die design should adopt the die design with guide as much as possible. At the same time, the die design gap should be considered. Too small or too large design gap will also increase the wear degree of the convex and concave dies, resulting in die damage and reduced service life.

3. Reasonable use and maintenance of mould

In the stamping process, the cold heading blank should be phosphated or copper plated to reduce the friction resistance and prevent the adhesion of the die. Therefore, before cold heading, the metal plate must be preheated to improve the processing performance of the material, so as to reduce the possibility of cracks and prolong the service life of the die. Lubrication is also a good method in cold upsetting. Good lubrication can obviously increase the surface finish of metal plate, reduce friction resistance, reduce wear and prolong the service life of die. Lubrication is more important in cold upsetting parts with complex shapes.

When the mould is stored, a certain space shall be kept between the upper and lower moulds to protect the edge from damage. When stamping, the depth of the punch into the die should be well controlled to avoid the aggravation of wear. In stamping practice, after a period of time, there will be wear and groove mark on the edge of concave convex die. If the die is repaired at this time, it can not only reduce the friction resistance, but also prevent the cracks caused by wear grooves, and avoid the additional bending moment caused by the uneven gap between the concave die and the convex die after wear, so as to extend the service life of the die. After the concave and convex die edges are grinded again, the gap between them becomes more uneven. At this time, the fine oilstone should be used to grind and polish the edges carefully to remove the grinding burr. Generally speaking, the surface roughness value should be RA ≤ 0.10 μ m or less, so as to eliminate the hidden danger of grinding damage of the concave convex die edges immediately.

4. Good lubrication conditions

Good lubrication can prevent rust, reduce friction heat, friction and punching pressure, reduce wear and prolong service life of mould. For example, when cutting silicon steel sheet in transformer, if the lubrication is good, the service life of die is about 15 times of that of die with poor lubrication. In addition, the proper use of lubricant type can also extend the life of the mold. For example, when the surface of stainless steel is extruded, if the general lubricating oil is used during the operation, only 90 pieces can be produced within the service life of the mold; if the lithium molybdenum disulfide grease is used for lubricating, about 12000 pieces can be produced, with a great difference between the two.

5. Processing and assembly quality of cold stamping die

The service life of cold stamping die is directly proportional to its machining accuracy and quality. The higher the accuracy and quality, the longer the service life. In the process of die installation, we should strictly control the gap between the punch and the die to reduce wear.

6. Use and maintenance of cold stamping die

The correct choice of appropriate, high precision stamping equipment, as well as the appropriate pressure can effectively extend the service life of the die. At the same time, in order to reduce the wear and tear, the stamping plate can be coated with appropriate lubricant, and the mold should be sealed and preserved when not in use, and properly protected.

In a word, with the continuous development of modern industrial technology, the structure and performance of industrial products are becoming more and more complex, and the high temperature, high speed, high friction and corrosive working environment demands more and more high-performance materials. Cold stamping die has the unique advantage of high production efficiency, so it is widely favored by enterprises, but the working environment of cold stamping die is very bad, so there are very strict requirements for the working performance of cold stamping die, the die must have high life, high precision and high performance in the production process. The economic cost of product processing and the economic benefit of product processing are determined by the service life of the cold stamping die. The service life of the cold stamping die is the main index to weigh the manufacturing degree of the cold stamping die in a country.
